  3. Extra Pins Cause Some Headaches At USWDGC

The United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship got started today outside Lansing, Michigan, and a common problem many disc golfers have come across is rearing its head at the PDGA Major.

In order to accommodate 15 different divisions, and to make the schedule as amenable to players as possible, tournament organizers are using two pin positions on each course, as well as shotgun starts for all tee times. Unfortunately, that leaves some extra obstacles out on the fairways.

Example: Vanessa Van Dyken’s upshot during Friday’s round one on Rivers Edge.

  8. Pittsburgh Penguins Goalie Casey DeSmith Adds Disc Golf To Mask Art

Hockey goalies are known for their extremely customized masks, and Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith has added his other athletic pursuit to his helmet for the 2018-2019 season.

DeSmith has only been playing disc golf for about three years, but he’s already become a big ambassador for the sport. He’s sponsored by Dynamic Discs, has a PDGA number reflecting his newfound hobby (#101294), and recently played his first tournament at the Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open, where he finished tied for 35th out of 46 competitors in the Open field.

DeSmith’s Penguins mask features a mascot on one side throwing discs into a basket on the other. The Dynamic Discs’ “DD” is visible on the back plate as well.

  9. Chandler Fry Gets His Own Ace At Canadian Championship

Chandler Fry was not going to let Simon Lizotte be the only one to walk off Prince Edward Island with a highlight. And he even decided to one-up the showman.

Fry matched Lizotte’s ace of the 182-foot tunnel shot on hole 13 at the Hillcrest Farm course, but pulled his off during the final round of the Canadian Championship where Lizotte had to settle for his during a Champs vs. Chumps round.

“It’s been quite the week so far here in Delaware. I made a last second ER visit this morning,” Wysocki posted on Instagram. “Turns out I’ve got some weird stomach virus and passed out last night. Hoping to make it through today’s final round.”
