  5. Disc Golf Scene On Hulu’s ‘Shrill’

    Disc Golf Hulu Shrill Ryan

Disc golf doesn’t always make it into pop culture, so when it does we appreciate it. Even if it’s a deprecating reference.

In the season one finale of the Aidy Bryant-led series Shrill, now streaming on Hulu, love interest Ryan is seen out playing a solo round in Portland. Ryan looks to be pretty serious about his game, yet not at all talented. We feel ya, man.

  6. Eagle McMahon Joins 1050 Club

Photo: Alyssa Van Lanen – DGPT

Eagle McMahon joined an elite tier of players with the March 2019 PDGA Player Rating update, becoming only the third player in history to hit a 1050 rating.

McMahon rose four points to reach 1050-rated for the first time in his career. Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki are the only two other players to ever be rated as highly as McMahon.

Paul McBeth 18-under par WACO Annual Charity Open Perfect Round Jomez

When Paul McBeth recorded a perfect, 18-under par round at the 2018 Great Lakes Open, we weren’t sure if the feat could be repeated.

McBeth matched his own heroics by throwing another 18-under par round during round two at the Waco Annual Charity Open.

  14. Drew Gibson Out With Achilles Injury

    Photo: @StrangePerspectivesDG

Drew Gibson will be sidelined from competition for the next 2-6 weeks with an Achilles tendon injury, Gibson announced on Instagram over the weekend.

“It’s not a rupture, thankfully. I suffered from some fairly bad/common micro tears,” Gibson told Ultiworld Disc Golf.  “I’m able to put weight on the Achilles and am somewhat mobile. But it’s probably at 60-percent so I’ve been told to not compete until I feel it’s at 100-percent. At the rate it’s improving I wouldn’t be amazed if I beat the six week guesstimate, but I’m gonna take it easy, as I want it to be at 100-percent prior to my return.”

  29. Austin Turner Withdraws From Las Vegas Challenge

    Photo: Overstable Studios

    Updated

Austin Turner withdrew from the 2019 Las Vegas Challenge after his round ended Thursday. He was sitting at 2-under par 57, 13 strokes off the lead.

Turner told Ultiworld Disc Golf the withdrawal was due to injury. He originally tweaked his back due to over hip rotation at USDGC.

“I did rehab all through the offseason. Felt great coming into this week,” Turner said. “I got here on Monday for a practice round and I felt something pop again. Tried to fight it out and nothing was really going well.”

  30. UDisc Live Drops Tap-In Putts From Stats

UDisc Live announced it will be adding a new statistic to its professional disc golf offering. Or rather, dropping some measurements to make an important stat more accurate.

The introduction of C1X Putting eliminates tap-ins from counting toward a player’s Circle 1 putting percentage. Going forward, putts from inside 3.3 meters (10 feet) will be excluded to “provide a clearer picture of putting skill.”

Discmania did not disappoint with its much-anticipated company news, as the Valentine’s Day announcement revealed new manufacturing partnerships with Latitude 64 and Yikun, as well as a continued relationship with Innova Champion Discs.  This is the first such instance of a disc golf company working with multiple manufacturers to create branded discs.
