Here’s a quick look around the PDGA schedule at notable players and tournament plans this weekend.

Mid America Open – DGPT Silver Series

In between Elite events, the Disc Golf Pro Tour heads to the Mid America Open in Columbia, Missouri, playing one of the top-rated course on Disc Golf Course Review.

Pros like Kevin Jones, Adam Hammes, Nikko Locastro, and more are taking on the John Houck-designed  Harmony Bends. The course may only be 6,900-feet, but it’s got teeth. Emerson Keith, who is not in the field, won here in 2019, and Zackeriath Johnson, who is in the field and already picked up an ace this weekend, tied for second. The FPO division is not as deep, and Lisa Fajkus is the top-rated player. Last year’s winner, Courtney Cannon, is in the event.

Here’s a quick look around the PDGA schedule at notable players and tournament plans this weekend.

Prodigy Disc Pro Tour 2020 – Tampere

With a round in the books, many of Europe’s top pros are in Finland playing stop no. 3 on the Prodigy Disc Pro Tour at the Tampere Disc Golf Center.

Väinö Mäkelä is out front of MPO after 18 holes, with a 1062-rated round finishing on an ace. He is three stokes ahead of a field with 15 players rated 1000 or better, including Seppo Paju, Jesse Nieminen, and Severi Saviniemi. Natural Born Disc Golfer will have round coverage of the event.

Eveliina Salonen’s 968-rated opener has her six strokes clear in the lead. Henna Blomroos is eight back.

Väinö Mäkelä got things started in the first round at the Prodigy Disc Pro Tour – Tampere by holing out no. 18.

With the basket 107 meters/351 feet dead ahead on a hill, Mäkelä played a backhand barely right and watched the disc do a late dump into the chains.

  16. Video: Have You Ever Seen A Bigger Ace Pot?

After Cale Leiviska was one of many before him to fail, Cory M rang up a massive ace for a $6,261 bounty during league night at Blue Ribbon Pines.

Cory called his shot on the tee pad — “Right edge, hold it, hold it, hold it, small dump” — before holing the bonus hole 27 to end the night.

Have you ever seen a larger ace pot.

    Sam Lee Ace

One of the Bluegrass state’s finest players rung up an ace at this year’s Ashland Open.

Throwing uphill on a 228-foot hole 9 at Armco Park (Blue Course, White Tees) during the first round, the Prodigy-sponsored lefty put an X1 on the right course for chains.

Lee would finish the tournament in a tie for third. He was sixth at last weekend’s Seviren Lang Memorial. We’ll next have a chance to see him in  action at the Idlewild Open.

  25. Is McBeth’s Rating The Result of Inflation?

  26. Paul McBeth Doesn’t Buy Into Inflated Player Ratings

Paul McBeth set another PDGA player ratings record yesterday with the July 2020 update.

A user on Facebook asked McBeth if he believed his ratings increase was a result of inflation due to larger player fields with higher overall ratings across the board. A fair question. McBeth’s reply was very on brand.

“Wouldn’t inflation result in everyone going up? I feel like it’s only me.”

Paige Pierce may not have pulled off the win in Wisconsin over the weekend, but her rating continues to dominate the rest of the Open Women’s division.

Pierce jumped eight points to 988, setting another record high rating for a female player. Sarah Hokom, Eveliina Salonen, and Henna Blomroos either moved into or remained in the 970-rated range.

In the Open division, Paul McBeth also set a career high and overall record rating at 1062, up one point over last update. Calvin Heimburg jumped six points to 1047 and is now the second highest rated player in the world.

Here’s a quick look around the PDGA schedule at notable players and tournament plans this weekend.

Prodigy Disc Pro Tour 2020 – Turku

The Euro scene continues to bring some big events post-quarantine. The next Prodigy Disc Pro Tour stop in Turku, Finland has 16 Open players rated above 1000 and the FPO triumvirate of Kristin Tattar, Eveliina Salonen, and Henna Blomroos.

Väinö Mäkelä and Blomroos were victorious at the last PDPT event at Turku in 2018, and both are chasing the lead after one round down. Tattar leads the Open Women’s division, and 991-rated Severi Saviniemi is top of MPO. The young Finn, Saviniemi, is playing some of the best golf of his career having finished second a couple weeks ago at the Prodigy Disc Pro Tour 2020 – Helsinki. His opening round was 1048-rated and he is two strokes ahead of Janne Hirsimäki, and three clear of Seppo Paju, Silver Lätt, and Oskari Vikström.

  31. Video: Eagle McMahon’s Forehand Roller Ace Is Better Than Advertised

    Eagle McMahon Roller Ace

Of all the impressive shots we’ve seen on Simon Lizotte’s vlog series, a guest appearance by Eagle McMahon may have taken over the no. 1 slot.

Playing Hammond Park in Emporia, Kansas after round 2 of the Dynamic Discs Open, Lizotte, McMahon, and Casey White were promoting the upcoming Discmania Mystery Box release on the short course. McMahon used the new disc release, currently unknown, to hit an impressive roller ace up a hill and off a root on the final hole 9.
