  7. Lloyd Weema Rule Set For 2020

Some of the first news coming out of the fall PDGA Summit includes an interesting tidbit about who can actually play Open at elite events in the coming season.

On the On The Box with Dixon Jowers Facebook page, Robert Leonard colloquially referred to the new rule that players in the Open division for PDGA National Tour and Disc Golf Pro Tour events, and Pro Worlds will now have to meet a ratings threshold of 900 as the Lloyd Weema rule. Previously, players only needed to be registered with the PDGA as professionals.

Best way to start a comeback? How about a blind ace?

Playing on the chase card during the final round at the Hall of Fame Classic, Chris Dickerson threw a Prodigy F5 on a high turnover line toward the pin on the 420-foot par 3 hole 11 on W.R. Jackson. After hearing a metal hit on the blind shot from the tee Dickerson joked it was an ace before being told he had holed it.

  12. Paul McBeth Hits 1060 Rating, Ends Season Early With Ankle Injury

    Paul McBeth Injury 1060 Post

The same day Paul McBeth became the first player in PDGA history to record a 1060 player rating, McBeth announced via Instagram that he would be ending his 2019 season early due to an injury.

“Unfortunately I re-aggravated an injury on the first hole of the [USDGC],” McBeth said. My right ankle had a severe pop during my putt, I even questioned, “What was that pop?” on my way to the basket.”

McBeth would go on the finish outside of cash in a tie for 64th place. He only finished one round under par.

Finishing in a tie for 64th place at the 2019 United States Disc Golf Championship, defending USDGC champion and reigning world champion Paul McBeth missed cash at the PDGA Major for the first time in his career.

Excluding an Ice Bowl event in January 2012 and a DNF at the 2017 Green Mountain Championship, the 2019 USDGC was the first time McBeth missed the payout at an event since the 2009 Sun Valley Open just over 10 years ago.

For reference, the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” was in the midst of a months-long run as the number one song in America and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs ruled the box office in late September 2009.

Robert Leonard also pulled out some interesting notes about McBeth’s payout history over the past decade.

    • Last time Paul made less than $500 at an event was Feb 15, 2015 (he won the event).
    • Since 2013, he has only made less than $500 9 times and 4 of those 9 he won the event.
    • This is the first time Paul has ever finished outside the top 45 of an event.
    • The last time he finished outside the top 20 June 17, 2012.

  19. Watch: Nikko Locastro’s Albatross On Hole 13 At USDGC

2019 USDGC Round 3 Nikko Locastro Hole 13 albatross throw-in

The start of round three was not how Nikko Locastro had drawn it up, but he provided the biggest highlight of the day while turning his fortunes around.

Playing on the lead card, Locastro was 3-over par for the round and in a tie for 10th through 12 holes on Friday. A perfect drive on hole 13B had Locastro in position to attack the 888-foot pin position for eagle on the par 5 and he was going for it.

Locastro did one better than eagle, skipping his second shot off the parking lot, over the curbs, and into the chains for an albatross, bringing him back to even par on the round.

Arby’s — yes, the sandwich fast food chain — put up USDGC-inspired Instagram and Facebook posts yesterday poking fun at the “pillars of justice” that guard two of the baskets on Winthrop Gold.

The Facebook caption read, “Normally, we’re down with adding mozzarella sticks, but this is a little much #USDGC.”

After a flurry of sponsorship signings big and small over the 2018 offseason, we’ve now had our first salvo in the 2019 edition.

Sweden’s Latitude 64 announced that they have signed rising star Emerson Keith to a three year contract extension.
